名词定义复合生态系统的发展受两种反馈机制所控制，一是作用和反作用彼此促进，相互放大的正反馈，导致系统当前发展状态的持续增长或衰退;另一种是作用和反作用彼此抑制，相互抵消的负反馈使系统维持在稳态附近。正反馈导致发展，负反馈维持稳定。系统发展的初期一般正反馈占优势，晚期负反馈占优势。持续发展的系统中正负反馈机制相互平衡。
