名词定义运行速度介于筒式磨煤机和风扇磨煤机之间，一般立轴转速为20~330r/min，利用碾磨件在一定压力下作相对运动时，煤在碾磨件之间受挤压、碾磨而被粉碎的各种磨煤机的总称。燃煤电厂应用较多的中速磨煤机有：球环式中速磨煤机(E型)、平盘式中速磨煤机(LM型)、轮式中速磨煤机(MPS型或MBF型)、碗式中速磨煤机(RP型或HP型)。
中文又称立轴式磨煤机(vertical spindle mill）
